KUDOS TO JOB CUTS! THAT'S RIGHT, START FIRING PEOPLE IN MASS!

You read the headline correctly. I support job cuts for companies that have problems which could jeopardize their stability. If the companies are on the verge of completely folding, then this is the king of measure everyone should support. NOW, if you actually read this article this far, you will see the real purpose of the headline. American companies can start their job cuts......overseas!! They were forcing employees several years ago to train foreign workers in anticipation of their job being cut here. That's right! You company executives thought all Americans have a short term memory! We DON'T! All through the Clinton years and some Bush, people were losing their job to cheaper wage new trainees overseas in countries like Indonesia, PAKISTAN, AND others. Countries which hate the United States and support terrorism. Countries which have terrorists in them. Countries which are now known for creating computer scams and conduct mass Internet Identity theft. How did these illiterate people learn how to infiltrate computer programs. Oh, we taught them because we wanted to spread the wealth around the world that we were enjoying. We wanted our companies to continue to increase the bottom line and to make annual reports to stock holders pleasing. So, we fired American workers, taught foreigners, created a new criminal industry, and now to continue to keep these companies viable....we must now believe our poor, poor companies must fire (who..?) ...the AMERICAN WORKER!! The American worker gets screwed again. American companies can finally show some chutzpah and fire FOREIGN WORKERS! Keep the American worker even at the higher cost. In the process, follow the Republican position and cut the damn taxes. Show American companies we want them to stay here. Stop punishing them which only encourages moving out of here. High taxes and regulations have created an environment impossible to compete in a world economy. Instead of stupid Democratic policy, punishing companies with regulations and taxes...Oh, I am sorry! Did I anger the environmentalists. Well, you Assholes are now losing your jobs too. I don't know if the environmentalists really want people to lose their jobs to cause a chaotic revolution around the world in some inane attempt of taking over the world with a Socialist agenda or what. I like to believe they aren't that contrived. Anyway, a policy of giving tax breaks and using TAX monies to help companies become energy efficient and environme tally sound would have made them more competitive and more profitable over time. Then they could pay the tax payer back over time like a loan from the bank at a very low interest. This would be available through the government because the government passed the regulation. When government sticks its nose in business, it should be in a temporary partnership, nor create government red tape and appointing a Czar. Jobs would have been kept here. It's apparent that job losses will continue all year. It is also apparent that companies will cut jobs here first versus overseas because of the bottom line. The change Sheik Obama and the Communists of the Democratic Party plan on bringing is Socialist style government. The change is absolutely no change at all or total change in taking over whatever they feel is necessary. The younger generation doesn't even know how to recognize Soviet style government. I grew up during the Cold War. It is scary how close we are coming to their government. The same government that failed. Did you see the ridiculous Bill the Democrats ( and only the Democrats) just passed? If you feel we are going in the right direction, enjoy getting your pink slip.

HOW DARE ISRAEL ......PART I

To the "Honorable" (yes, a Farrakhan pun!) Rabbi Kahane, Jews will forever owe you their gratitude because of your eloquent perception : "Dear World, you stood by the Holocaust and you stood by in 1948 as seven states launched a war that the Arab League proudly compared to the Mongrol Massacres. You stood by in 1967 as Nasser, wildly cheered by wild mobs in every Arab capital in the world, vowed to drive the Jews into the sea. And you would stand by tomorrow if Israel were facing extinction, we will do everything possible to remain alive in our own land. If that bothers you, dear world, well--think of how many times in the past you bothered us. In any event, dear world, if you are bothered by us, here is one Jew who could not care less." The poor treatment by the press/media at large at Israel is ubiquitous. The combination of tradition media and internet savy anti-Western radicals has been steadfast in delivering a message of unbridled hate unlike anything before it. Permeated by a filthy, vile picture of Western Culture accounts of history, the people spreading these feelings aim their efforts primarily towards Israel. The status of the Jewish State is unique. Its downfall would domino into a revolution of destruction not seen since WWII. How can I make the comparison? One only has to look at the current economic crisis to see how things can quickly tumble. Many questions have been proposed by the public at large pertaining to the Israeli Gaza crisis. Most of the discussions being run in forums demonstrate how distorted the history and circumstances have become. I am going to discuss what is being discussed in an attempt to clarify the misinformation. Also, define why the circumstances are occurring in the way they are panning out. See Part II

COLLABORATION BETWEEN INDIA AND ISRAEL PART III

With the internet, the reporting of news from traditional sources is being met with suspicion and disbelief and distrust by the average world citizen. Flashbacks from the story 1984, Brave New World, and others has finally been met and recognized. Today, with the average person handling a camera and a computer can become a world class reporter. The news is written by anonymous people who happen to take the mantle of watchdog. Sites I enjoy reviewing provide me with information I could never retrieve myself. When it comes to India, I rely on multiple friends who live in the area or have immediate family there. The groundbreaking folks at hinduunity and the Kahane followers have been promoting one another for several years. I will be providing more information on India from the Hindus I know. Another terrific site about India and their plight with terror is this. This site called Islamicterror.wordpress.com reports about attacks all over the world. Their information on India happens to be great. Please check them out. I will be adding them permanently to the sidebar. I intend to write more on India in the next week so watch for it. I am running into some time consuming issues with our first podcast. I intend to follow through, but the podcast will be up very soon. Once its posted, I will be able to copntinue putting up more easily. Also, I have not ignored the conflict in Israel. I have multiple articles coming about this and the reaction the world is having to the response. India and Israel should openly help one another out. Their cooperation would generate the momentum needed to command attention in the UN and the fair treatment of countries dealing with the harsh reality of terrorism. Let's spread the word on the internet! See you for part VI.

COLLABORATION: INDIA HAS THE POPULATION, ISRAEL HAS THE EXPERIENCE PART II

PART II This site gives a laudry list of attacks that have taken place for nearly 10 years. Only a small example of the train attacks that take place. This is an example of just how large the problem is in India. TRAIN ATTACKS LIST What bothers me about this article is the mention of victims in each case. In the first note, is clearly states Muslims were killed. No question who was the victim. In the next several attacks listed, it never mentions that the victims were Hindu or Indian. It states people or victims. Again, bias takes the shape of leaving information out selectively and presumably deliberately. The Gohdra attacks of 2002 shows 57 Hindus killed. BUT, then it points out it was allegedly done by the Muslims. Then, the (supposed) irrational and disproportionate retaliation by an incited mob of Hindus mercilessly and without cause kills thousands of Muslims. This statement is so filled with garbage, I can't believe anyone would write it. The attack was in response to an unprovoked stone attack and firebombing. The only thing the murdered Hindus did was rejoice about their pilgrimage. The Muslims answered a peaceful and public display of pride with phyical attack. How does anyone consciously think they can be equated? I have seen video of the train attack. It was a horrible site! The government conducted a report that found the fire was not the cause of the Muslim Mob. On the video, the only rational conclusion was the total opposite. Nevertheless, I personally believe the report came to this conclusion out of necessity. The incitement of both parties at this point reached a boil and unless something turned down the temperature, this was never going to end. So, this was probably a political end more than a real investigation. This conclusion also directs blame of Hindus being the loose cannon, not the Muslims. This is another example of irrational and disproportionate response by others against Muslims. Israel is getting the same treatment. Maybe a news agency needs to be created by us to respond to the bias reporting done by Al-Jazeera.

Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell

I have not had the opportunity to read for pleasure in a long time. For the holidays, luckily, I was able to find enough of it to read Outliers: The Story of Success by Malcolm Gladwell, New Yorker columnist and author of two bestsellers Tipping Point and Blink. Outliers is itself an outlier, fast becoming a story of success. Gladwell presents fascinating vignettes of people and groups of people who have achieved success ostensibly through their own sheer grit and merit. But then he questions whether their own merit and hard work are the only factors that led to their success. Or whether they were ricipients of advantages of what Gladwell calls "hidden opportunities." For example, Gladwell looks into why the top Canadian hockey players are overwhelmingly born in January, February, and March. Of course these players are gifted, talented, hard working, etc. But is there another explanation, some hidden opportunity that the hockey stars had? Apparently, the elite Canadian youth hockey leagues begin at 10 years old and the registration date is January 1st. So if you are born after January 1st, and the closer your birthdate is to January 1st, the more physically and mentally mature you'll be by January 1st of the following year relative to your league competitors. For instance, Wayne Gretzky, no doubt an outlier in major league hockey, was born on January 26. He was 9 years old on January 1st (making him ineligible for the elite hockey league), but 25 days later he turned 10 years old. So by January 1st of the following year (when he was eligible), Gretzky was physically and mentally more mature than the other 10 year olds in the elite youth league, because he was only 25 days away from turning 11. Thanks to his relatively higher maturity, Gretzky excelled at every stage in Canada's pyramidal youth hockey leagues. And because he excelled, he received more attention by the coaches and his parents. Ultimately, Gretzky got swept up by a cycle that honed his hockey play and hoisted him to the top of the Canadian hockey pyramid. These hidden opportunities are also found in many elite youth soccer leagues in Europe which have registration dates of August 1st. As you can imagine, many of the top European soccer stars have birthdates immediately following August 1st. Another vignette that I found fascinating was Gladwell's look into why Asians are outliers in math. Is it because Asians are simply innately smarter? (As an Asian myself, I liked to think so.) Not so. Instead, Gladwell suggests that Asian languages (and so too Hebrew) treat numbers in an uninterrupted logical manner which makes it easier for young children to grasp numbers. For example, in Korean, eleven is literally translated to mean ten-one, twelve is ten-two, thirteen is ten-three, and etc. Moreover, twenty is two-ten, thirty is three-ten, and etc. Any non-Korean reader of an IQ of 80 or higher can probably figure out the Korean number system with the two examples I've presented. And there is the key: expectancy. Logic creates expectancy and understanding. In turn, Asian children become more comfortable with numbers and they can memorize numbers quicker and retain them longer. Like the hockey example, a higher comfort level with numbers at early ages begins a cycle of learning and enjoyment with subjects involving numbers. And when you are comforable and creative with numbers, you tend to be more diligent in solving mathematical problems and equations. Fast forward twenty years to college and graduate levels, Asians have a distinct advantage in math.
Gladwell concludes each story with suggestions on how we can improve our education system and our society in general by focusing on these hidden opportunities. I will discuss these suggestions in a later post.

Of course as with many other books that suggest different causes for particular effects , you can think of other examples that cause the effects, which I gather is the point. Gladwell does an excellent job in making the reader think, question, and challenge conventional wisdom.

At your service,

American Confucius

CAR CZAR! SOUNDS LIKE A BAD DR.SEUSS STORY! WHAT IS WITH THE BAILOUT!?!

The bailout of the "Big 3" (with Ford ever in the shadow of dipping their hands in at any moment) has been approved! Some people have been advocates while others bitter proponents. Time will determine whether or not this decision was worth pursuing. What has this decision's consequences mean to the future to Rucking Fidiculous? I am old enough to remember waiting on lines during the oil embargo of the early '70s. Nightmares of getting up 4AM in order to line up for whatever gasoline might be available. Illegally parking in the streets until the station would open. As a pre-teen, I was shocked to see fist fights over drivers accusing one another of cutting the line. The chaos caused by the embargo had sparked society's awareness that this path of fossil fuels compromises our way of life in many, many ways. The American car companies were staples of industry and were a clear barometer into the economic situation. During the later 70s, pollution control became a higher priority. Caught off guard, the auto makers were incapable to transitioning their assembly lines quickly enough to address the new standard. Also, the desire to increase gas mileage became paramount. The auto companies coped while Chrysler croaked. In Chapter 11, Chrysler eventually pulled through to become successful enough until now. The Middle East conflict was never far from anyone's mind since the Arabs felt the embargo would coerce the West to support their cause. Many college students were perplexed about what direction their support should move. Many of their parents views were shaped by the generation involved in WWII. Everyone knew someone from the wartime. Support for Israel was unquestioned because of the Jews plight from Nazi Germany. The 1960s brought out the hippie view which brought Civil Rights into everyone's living room via TV. Any oppressed people become the focus of the movement. When the Palestinians took radical steps to generate attention, they were influenced by the reaction society was having from the Civil Rights. Riding the coattails of radical 60s icons, the terrorists put their cause to the forefront of the evening news during the 70s. People took notice and started to question support for Israel. The oppressed people must be the Arabs since they are so moved for their cause. Oil became the fuel for the Arabs for political gains. Today, Arab oil has lost its luster and is solely used for supporting terrorism and bolstering the population boom in the Arab world. Throughout the 80s, the US auto makers constantly played catch up. Troubling years and low gas prices led to little memory of the hardship the embargo caused. Technology was moving forward, but not at the pace the Generation Y members are accustom to. Advances in anything today are done at sprinting speeds. One can rest assure that next year computers will be faster. That internet programs will have upgrades. That the iphone will only get better!! I love the iphone! The car companies today are giving people flashbacks of a more troubling time. Tired of the reported turmoil between Unions and the CEOs, the current frontpage news is leading a backlash towards the fighting. Most people have been listening to Al Gore soapbox the green future. He was a global warming cohort. As the environment becomes an ever important resource, he yelled the US is the big criminal in spilling environmental distress. Deliberately igniting anger towards the US, Gore fueled feelings of disgust around the world to an audience which already had tremendous contempt for this country. When gas prices skyrocketed, he shouted at US automakers for not keeping up with Toyota and their move towards hybrids. All evidence showed the vehicles Toyota made were not financially viable for most. When the Big 3 were asked about what will they do to compete, they answered the technology is not good enough to create an all electric vehicle with financial responsibility, reliability, and responsive to the American driving patterns. The Big 3 have made some hybrids in the meantime. The biggest argument for answering the financial viability was the increased gas price. The high cost of oil sparked a revolution in green tech. It became a potentially profitable alternative. This sparked Wall Street interest! But now that gas is plummeting... The interest in investing in green tech is disappearing because it is no longer financially attractive. The world has fallen from good times to a new recessionary period, possibly leading to a depression. Money for research is drying up fast! No one will ever settle for the status quo. Therefore, green tech is the future. But maybe not appropriate for the present. Maybe the Big 3 were right all along about the tech for the green car not being ready today. The Chevy Volt shows they are taking the direction seriously and will make it available when its timely. Until then, I think Gore should shut his pie hole. I think Obama should stop telling the coal industry and power plants that run this country that unless they convert to green tech he will fine them. Maybe when the US starts referring to a car czar for fiscal responsibilty, we can start seeing that when the business world is ready to present the green tech we want, they will. Leave the Czar in Russia! The bailout is done, like it or not. Leave the government out of their business.

RIP Paul Weyrich (Founder of Heritage Foundation)

Following the 1925 Scopes Trial, Christians in America vowed to never foray into politics again. Fast forward to 1962, their political timidity deepened after the Supreme Court in Engel v. Vitale ruled school prayer unconstitutional. Only Paul Weyrich demurred. In fact, he set his life mission to create a political majority made up of "moral" Americans. The Moral Majority was coined by Weyrich, but given currency by Jerry Falwell.
Weyrich today is probably best known as the co-founder of the Heritage Foundation, arguably the most influential conservative think-tank in the world. But perhaps more notable is his awakening of the Christian Right. He was confounded by the Christians' reticence to become active in politics - they made up such a huge potential voting block. His problem was that he was not a pastor, and he himself was a Roman Catholic. He didn't have the Christian credentials to be an effective spokesperson.

Weyrich turned to Jerry Falwell, then a Virginia preacher who hosted a popular evangelical TV show and founded a Bible college. Together, Weyrich and Falwell raised enough money to conduct some national polling asking Christians whether they'd tolerate their pastors becoming political and whether they'd contribute to faith-based political action committees. The polling was overwhelmingly positive.

And thus the Moral Majority was born. The Moral Majority overtly pressed the Christian evangelical agenda in the political sphere to great success. In 1977, four years after the infamous Roe v. Wade in 1973, Weyrich founded the Heritage Foundation. Many of the ideas, principles and policy positions disseminated by the Heritage Foundation served as the arsenal with which President Reagan won the Presidency in 1980.

Weyrich, perhaps single-handedly, sparked the Christian Right's political ascendancy that won us Presidents Reagan the Bush I and II, not to mention Gingrich's 1994 Republican Revolution that pushed the nation paradigmatically to the right.

Weyrich and his contributions are enduring.

Bush and the Bailout: The Politics of Betrayal

President Bush announced today that he is offering $17.4 billion in loans to Chrysler and GM because letting the automakers fall would send our economy into a "deeper and longer recession." This girly-man move goes against a central pillar of western capitalism - creative destruction. The Austrian-school economist Joseph Schumpeter popularized and used the term to describe the process of transformation that accompanies radical innovation. In Schumpeter's vision of capitalism, innovative entry by entrepreneurs was the force that sustained long-term economic growth, even as it destroyed the value of established companies that enjoyed some degree of monopoly power. I've always maintained a solemn respect for President Bush and the belief that history will judge him favorably, particularly his decisions involving the war and, more generally, the global war on terror. However, on probably one of the most important issues of his Presidency, he has decided to let the voices of his conservative base fall on deaf ears in order to prop up the uncompetitive U.S. automakers. Essentially, he has folded like a cheap lawn chair, and my respect may fold alongwith.

OBAMA INAUGURATION: I WILL SAY MY FULL NAME (HUSSEIN!) TO IMPROVE ISLAMIC WORLD OPINION OF US.

I heard that Obama intends to state his full name when he accepts the Presidential chair. He is insistent on pronouncing his middle name in a gesture to improve the outlook with Islamic nations. Well, who gives a sh@% what they think? Is the Christian view going to be insulted if he uses his Muslim name? This is a Judeo-Christian country. I remember the Democratic Jews bolstering Obama's image by spreading the gossip on his FIRST name. They said his name was Barack, which sounds just like Baruch. And Baruch means blessed in Hebrew. Give me a freaking break. Jews lying to other Jews!! These deceptive people should be lawyers. They maliciously left out the fact that Barack is Arabic for blessed! Some Jews voted for Hitler. It is not so far fetched that they would have voted Arafat in as Prime Minister of Israel if they thought he was in the Labor Party (the Democratic Party equivalent in Israel). The Obama machine duped everyone into believing he will support Israel. NOT A CHANCE IN HELL! He will bring about the demise of Israel. And the Jews will once again be responsible for their own destruction. As a Jew, I am annoyed at the self-righteous attitude of the Liberal Jew. He will justify his stand even if it is self defeating. Never willing to listen to any other view. My articles on Obama's political stand towards Israel and how he intends to deal with the Mid East Peace Process are about as thorough and accurate as any expert could possibly imagine. I hope readers look through the articles we published and the future articles. When this Presaidency starts, I will post nearly daily on how he does. So far he supports Israel's response, supports tax cuts, and is considering raising taxes 10 cents on gasoline. So far he sounds more Republican. Now if he could just stop thinking about taxes....

IT'S A DEPRESSION, STUPID!!! LIQUIDITY IS NOT THE SOLUTION!!

Why are all the "leaders" insisting the solution begins with MORE credit? Businesses do rely on availability of credit in order to operate. When this is not a viable option, the business strategy must be altered to the current situation. Increasing debt is the reason citizens are feeling strangled now. Therefore, having access to more is only going to exacerbate the problem in the long term. I own a business and my day-to-day operation is based on what money I have in the bank. I purchase supplies according to need and cost control. If I put my business in debt by borrowing money, it would leverage my competition in a downturn. Private funding for new businesses thru investors leaves government out of business. The bank bailout provided funds to prevent a collapse of the financial industry. In fact, the Congress proudly passed the Bill singing their own praise about preventing a Depression. Well, with no stipulations given to the banks, they gladly spent the money on frivolous shenanigans and umbrellas while simultaneously hording the monies to solidify their positions. The government is failing to pursuit the bailout money because no legislation has been passed to add stipulations now. Improper conduct is rewarded by the banks with taxpayer money? It's never too late when taxpayer money is involved. The Democrats have been involved in the deceit which strikes me as perplexing given the election results. The Bush administration has done nothing to address the issues responsible. He could have brought investigations into the fiasco which would have squarely placed the cause on high ranking Democrats. Instead, he remained silent which now puts his inaction as a supplement to the problem. One solution the Congress should implement is every bank which received taxpayer funds must immediately provide every person with a mortgage an interest rate half of what the current rate is or that is in contract currently. This would allow everyone to free up sums of money to use on necessities they currently have. Also, this would allow people to pay down their mortgage faster if they choose. I would like readers to make suggestions in order to write their Congressman here on this page. Any feedback would be appreciated, good or bad. Grappledoctor

THE WINNER OF THE 2008 US ELECTION IS...HILLARY CLINTON DISGUISED AS OBAMA!!

The US election is over! The race between Obama and Hillary was a hotbed of words. Obama may have won, but the Clintons are running the show!! Why do I feel this is apparent? The inexperience of Obama sometimes showed during an impromptu "question and answer" session during the campaign. His charisma and composure was remarkable throughout. Once he solidified his position as the new President Elect, he suddenly became very quiet. The media kept his momentum in the public eye, but every decision made by him has been reminiscent of the Democratic "Camelot" of the '90's, the Clinton Administration! Obama was picked for the Democratic ticket because he held the cards for motivating the apathetic and uninspired Black voter block to participate in unusually large numbers. The Democrats saw the upcoming campaign as particularly crucial due to the Supreme Court appointments (which will determine the make up for the next 20 plus years) . Also, the Democrats knew they were poised to win seats in Congress. If they have a controlling majority, the passage of typically controversial bills would be less hindered in getting their passage. The only hurdle left would be the veto authority of the President. This would lead the Congress in a stalemate between them and the President. They would fall into being labeled another do-nothing Congress as a result. Therefore, the only way to assure an unobstructed administration is to win a Congressional majority, the Presidency, and a (Left Wing Ideological) majority in the Supreme Court. The Politically Correct establishment would be giddy over an empowered Presidency. Once Obama had been given time to recuperate from the stressful turmoil of the election, he was poised to take center stage but apparently found himself in a quagmire. The quagmire was "reality settling in" and he now must deliver on his campaign promises. Also, the responsibility of running the highest office in a responsible manner with an economic depression looming is intimidating. In addition, the expectations of the public, both here and abroad, have reached unattainable heights by anyone's measure. I can see it now: Obama and his family close the door of their home and let out a loud cheer in celebration of his victory. When the rejoicing seetles down.... Enter the Reality Check: "What the Hell do I do next?" Where can he look for guidance? Who has experience running the federal Government? Much to his chagrin, the only person with the experience, popularity, strength, and charisma is his former rival, now savior, Hillary Clinton. Acting out of obvious fear and desperation, his predicament is leaving him little choice. Therefore, he must have made the call. He probably delayed the choice, but I suspect the party must have foreseen it. It appeared when she started to bolster his campaign, she had already arranged for a high position in his administration in exchange for plausible support for him. She took the backseat to the presidency and the party allowed her to run the show. McCain actually appeared to be relieved after losing the election. His demeanor was radically altered afterwards when he appeared on late night TV. His composure seems to have returned. If he had won the election, I believe he might have picked Hillary to be in a cabinet post. HE NEEDED HER FOR THE VERY SAME REASONS! My next prediction for the radical Left is to flood monies from this coutry into the Israeli early elections to unobstruct the "Peace Process" passage of the old Clinton regime.

Random Thoughts on Race, Religion, & Marriage

According to the American Heritage dictionary, the word discriminate is defined primarily as, "to make a clear distinction" and "to make sensible decisions; judge wisely." But there's little doubt the word discrimination has a negative connotation, usually related to racial discrimination and racism. According to the same dictionary, a racist is defined as, "The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others." So if you are making a clear distinction, or even a sensible judgment, based on the belief that your race is superior, you are racially discriminating, and, therefore, you are a racist. This may seem like a overly broad definition of a racist, and yes, it sort of makes everyone a racist. But I think my friend once said it best, "The issue is not whether you're racist, but to what degree." Well, what about discriminating based on a belief that one's religion is better than another? Or discriminating based on a lack of religion? Let's use the context of marriage to illustrate the two types of discrimination here. What if I refuse to marry a person who is not Christian. Or, what if I won't marry a person who is not Korean? The first is discrimination based on religion, and the latter based on race. At first blush, the latter seems somewhat more nefarious than the first (Or maybe neither are nefarious at all). But why? Is race more fundamental to the person than his religion? I don't think so. It seems to me that one's religion (or lack thereof) defines a person as much as his race and ethnicity. (Well, that's my opinion. I guess it depends on each person and how they define themselves). Both concepts seem equally fundamental to our uniqueness as individuals and is why being discriminated against based on either you race or religion is offensive (or not). And our laws certainly treat them equally fundamental as violations against one's right to practice his religion and discrimination based on race are both afforded strict scrutiny, the highest standard of review by the courts. Well, if the degree of fundamentality fails to explain the difference in the degree of negativity, than perhaps the answer lies in the results of such discrimination. For example, an employer refusing to give a job to a qualified candidate because he is black would certainly qualify as a nefarious result of racial discrimination. But if an employer refuses based on the qualified candidate's religious views, well, whats the difference? They both seem very troubling and a practice we should avoid. What about history? Does racial discrimination invoke visceral reactions because of our country's dark past with enslaving blacks? But religious persecution is the reason why our country was founded. Certainly our race troubles are more recent, but both types of discrimination/persecution have been central to our country's history. So I don't think history is a good explanation.
Or is this endeavor simply fruitless? Because, let's think about it. Shouldn't we give FULL freedom to individuals so they can make rational choices for who they want as their life partner and who they want to populate the world with (Ok, boorish way to put it, but it's true folks)? Marriage is sacrosanct. And perhaps the sacro-sanctity makes marriage one of those exceptional circumstances that justifies discrimination. For instance, many Korean women who grow up and live in Korea may consider dating non-Koreans, but probably would not marry one. Koreans are a very homogeneous people. So it seems reasonable that Koreans want to marry fellow Koreans. And the same reasoning goes, I think, with not wanting to marry someone who does not share the same level of religious faith. You want to ensure that the strong tradition of faith is carried out through the lineage. Ultimately, I think as long as you have a "good" reason for your exclusivity rule, it's more than justified, and therefore, completely rational. And is probably why we have not seen marriage lawsuits claiming racial or religious discrimination (at least from what I know) . I would hope, however, that rules are made to be broken.

FORMER PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER, ELECTIONS MONITOR, PEACE KEEPER AND NEGOTIATOR, PEANUT FARMER, AND PEANUT BRAIN

President Carter's involvement in foreign elections to avoid any and all tactics to distort results. Here is the list: Elections Monitored by The Carter Center: 71 Elections in 28 Countries (April 2008 figures) Cherokee Nation (July 1999) Liberia (July 1997, October 2005) China Elections (March 1997, July 1997, March 1998, January 1999, September 1999, January 2000, August 2000, September 2001, December 2001, December 2002, June 2004, May 2005, May 2006) Mali (April 2002) Democratic Republic of the Congo (July 2006) Mexico (July 1992, August 1994, July 1997, July 2000) Dominican Republic (May 1990, June 1996, May 2000) Mozambique (December 1999, November 2003, December 2004) East Timor (August 1999, August 2001, April 2002, June 2007) Nepal (April 2008) Ecuador (September 2007*, September 2008*) Nicaragua (February 1990, October 1996, November 2000, November 2001, November 2006) Ethiopia (May 2005) Nigeria (December 1998, January 1999, February 20, 1999, Feb. 27, 1999) Ghana (November 1992) Palestinian Territories (January 1996, January 2005, January 2006) Guatemala (November 2003*) Panama (May 1989, May 1994) Guyana (October 1992, March 2001, August 2006*) Paraguay (May 1993) Haiti (December 1990) Peru (April 2000, June 2001) Indonesia (June 1999, July 2004) Sierra Leone (May 2002) Jamaica (December 1997, October 2002) Venezuela (December 1998, July 2000, August 2004, December 2006*) Kenya (December 2002) Zambia (October 1991, December 2001) *These missions were targeted or focused observations and did not result in statements on the overall administration of the electoral process. Why has Carter been so involved in these elections? Fairness is the principle behind electing a candidate. If he has demonstrated such standards on world elections in the interests of fairness, when does he intend to scrutinize the fraud committed by ACORN. The election process needs to be overhauled (like the show). Already in Florida, early voters have been complaining about process. If I want the voters to participate properly, we need to make the process foolproof (dummy proof). And South Florida is the poster child for election fiascos. Let a third party organization conduct a study on how problems arose for voters across the country. This should include accusations of fraud and any other misconduct. Then, all issues could be addressed in time for the 2012 election. I read the sample ballot dispensed in the local mail to all residents. The Amendments were written in jargon that only a trial lawyer could possibly decipher. Semantics and logic was my favorite class in high school. I have a college education and a ost graduate degree. I have a reasonably well orchestrated command of the English language. I found the manner in which the Amendments were written make them nearly impossible for anyone to understand. Anyone with less ability to make reasonably judgements may not be qualified to vote. I read about Democrats driving bus loads of citizens from wherever to the booths. Some of the people are homeless!! They do need a voice, but are they capable of honestly voting with any comprehension?! Sometimes underhandedness provokes people to do things. This type of behavior is really amoral, bordering on criminal. I think when Carter gets involved in past elections in a gesture of fairness, he is guilt laiden with silence when he fails to do so now.
